Govt Speaks On Returnees Following Shock Spike In Coronavirus Cases

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo has said that the government has intensified its efforts to ensure that those returning home from abroad do not spread coronavirus int the country.

This comes as the country’s known cases have jumped from 63 to 132 within 24 hours with 75 of the new 76 cases being returnees from mainly South Africa and Botswana.

Moyo said although authorities cannot block Zimbabwean citizens from coming back home, a cocktail of measures have been drafted to curb the spread of the virus. He said:

I can confirm that the cases who have tested positive are all from the quarantine areas, except for one, who is from Harare. They have been separated from the rest of the members who are in quarantine.

I want to point out that we are making sure that we continuously test all these returnees who are in the quarantine areas. It’s our number one priority at this stage to make sure that we process them.
