ZANU PF Official Using Subsidised Mealie-Meal As Campaigning Tool - Retailers

A ZANU PF official, Misheck Mugadza, is reportedly using the government’s subsidised mealie-meal to gain political mileage.

These allegations were made by some retailers in Mutare South who told NewsDay that the ZANU PF shadow legislator was using his political muscle to access the scarce commodity even when he does not have a licence.

Mugadza, however, denied the allegations saying that he was ready to work with anyone and everyone regardless of their political affiliations. He said:

I was approached by some people in my constituency (Mutasa South), where I am the shadow MP, they told me that they were not getting the cheaper subsidised mealie-meal. As you are ware the constituency is big, so I am just doing what any businesspersons, philanthropists would do. I am just helping and our President Emmerson Mnangagwa said no one should benefit from this initiative, but just help.

He admitted that he operates without a licence adding that he collects money from the people in the constituency and give it to businesspeople with licences and then transport the commodity on behalf of the people.

The accusations come when the opposition MDC is accusing ZANU PF of abusing both the subsidised commodity and food aid to win the electorates’ hearts.
