Khupe led MDC Faction Secretary-General Douglas Mwonzora is confident his party will defeat both the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance and the ruling party in the upcoming by-elections, New Zimbabwe reports. The seats fell vacant after Mwonzora recalled 4 MDC Alliance legislators last month.
Mwonzora reportedly said this during an interview with the publication:
Once of course we have recalled people, we will replace them. So we are going to replace Senator Timveous, we are going to replace Hon. Thabitha Khumalo. We will invite ZEC to do that, this will be done after we have done the necessary consultations.
Let me also say that we are prepared to go for by-elections. We are prepared for by-elections and we will win them.
The 2 by-elections Mwonzora is confident his party will win are supposed to be held before Mid August according to the Electoral Act. The MDC Alliance has contested the expulsion of the legislators in court and the judgement on the matter is expected to come in on Friday.
