Africa Key In Global Response To COVID-19 - UNAID & ACDCP
Winnie Byanyima, the Executive Director of UNAIDS and John Nkengasong, the Director of Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention have said that Africa is a huge player in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
They added that the success in fighting the pandemic will also be determined by results in Africa adding that the world is interconnected and the world is only as strong as its weakest health system.
They added:
Beating Covid-19 in Africa, in turn, is essential for beating it worldwide. African leadership and global solidarity are both essential to overcoming the Covid-19 crisis in Africa, and Africa’s citizens demand nothing less.
They also said that it is important to note that although Africa has a good record in fighting pandemics, health systems on the continent are not up for the task of containing the virus.

They urged the international community to avail support to African countries at the same time challenging African governments to be transparent with the use of the resources they receive.
They also warned that it is equally important not to divert funding meant for other issues including malaria and HIV and AIDS.
