PICTURES: "Disturbing Atmosphere," - Preschoolers In France As Schools Reopen

Schools have reopened in France after and other countries around the world since closing months ago due to the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic.

Pictures of preschoolers at a preschool in Tourcoing, France, as French journalist Lionel Top puts it, project a “Very strange, even disturbing atmosphere.”

Authorities are still cautious and this suggests that this might be the new normal as there are fears of the outbreak of the wave of the virus.

The novel coronavirus emerged in China in December 2019 and has now spread rapidly across the world infecting more than 4.8 million people and killing over 300 000 people globally.

Zimbabwe is also planning to slowly reopen schools. President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced on Saturday that “public exam classes within schools and final year students at colleges and universities must be allowed to continue, recognising, however, stipulated COVID-19 prevention measures.”

He added that “clear plans of the phased reopening of schools must continue to be put in place.”

Teachers’ unions are saying that reopening schools right now is premature as mechanisms to ensure the safety of both teachers and learners are not yet in place.

Some schools have resorted to online learning to reduce the potential of contracting and spreading the virus.
