Eritrea Now Has Zero Coronavirus Cases, Zero Deaths - 17 May 2020

Eritrea has officially declared itself virus-free again after all 39 patients successfully recovered from COVID-19. This was revealed in a statement that was issued by the Ministry of Health which observed that the 39th patient had been discharged from the hospital on the 15th of May.

As of May 8, there were only two active cases, one of which was discharged on the 11th.  Eritrea follows the likes of Mauritania and Mauritius who have recorded full recoveries although Mauritania has since recorded new cases.

Eritrea is also among a handful of African countries that have not recorded deaths as of May 17, 2020, 10:29 GMT.

Other African countries which have not recorded coronavirus deaths are Madagascar, Central Africa Republic, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Lesotho, Rwanda and Uganda.

Meanwhile, as of May 17, 2020, 10:45 GMT, 4 740 536 cases, 313 641 deaths and 1 824 336 recoveries had been recorded globally.

No vaccine has been found yet and health experts still emphasise personal hygiene and social distancing.
