Zimbabwe Republic Police Intercept 14 Border Jumpers - Mangwana

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana has reported that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Masvingo has intercepted border jumpers at Ngundu roadblock.

Without revealing the nationality of the said border jumpers, Mangwana tweeted:

Police in Masvingo intercepted 14 border jumpers at a Ngundu roadblock. They will be redirected to a quarantine centre within the province.

Currently, Rupangwana holds 19 people and Masvingo Teachers College is holding 79.

Some have however expressed concern over the porous state of the country’s borders saying they could have been intercepted at the border and not in Ngundu which is about 193.7 km and 613.9 km from Beithbridge and Nyamapanda respectively.

Around March, ZRP reported that it had busted illegal immigrants from Ethiopia who were hiding in villages around Gwanda in Matebeleland South.

Some of the illegal immigrants will be coming to mine and siphon gold while some will be coming to establish informal businesses, reports have said.

The development means that the porous borders are becoming a huge health risk to the nation as the border jumpers can skip the borders into the country willy-nilly and spread the virus to unsuspecting members of the public.
