FULL THREAD: "Quitting Parliament Would Be Shortsighted," - MDC Advised

Chipo Dendere, an Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at Wellesley College, United States, has advised the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) not to relinquish their “hard-earned” Parliamentary seats as a way to protest recalls of their calls from Parly.

Chalton Hwende is one of the legislators who was recalled by reinstated party leader Thokozani Khupe. Dendere tweeted:

I was chatting with a friend about the MP recalls. They suck but maybe this is the only way to free the opposition from the entitlement of Mwonzora, Khupe & crew. Like ZANU they think we owe them for whatever sacrifice they made. We need a fresh start and the 20-year mark is fine

They should recall the MPs. This is the time for everyone who supports the opposition to show our support with $ donations for new elections. For as long as Khupe thinks we owe her for joining the party in 1999 we can’t progress. Let them burn their legacies for cheap silver

I disagree with the suggestions that MDC MPs should march out of parliament. DO NOT GIVE up seats. Some of us spent hours in line to vote. Voters voted for you. ZANU must not have a 2/3 majority because the constitution matters. Quitting parliament would be shortsighted.

If Mwonzora recalls MPs – people will vote again in by-elections. What this shows is that Mwonzora doesn’t care about the people. He is a power-hungry person. No majority will vote for him or Khupe for president. They just don’t have the fuel needed to move the country forward

We had a general election in 2018. Neither Khupe or Mwonzora had the votes. They are so petty they would rather burn the entire house down than admit that maybe it’s time to accept different roles in the movement. They don’t care at all about the efforts of ordinary men & women.

It actually quite upsetting if you think deeply about it. What’s their reasoning for recalling MPs beyond selfish motives? Like seriously – in what world does Mwonzora think he would be chosen as a party front runner. No offence but seriously? Even Khupe – come on!!!
