Zimbabwe is reportedly losing billions of United States dollars through shady deals which by diamond mining companies which are owned by military and political elites.

Zim Morning Post reports that the leakage was reported by officials within the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Mining Company (ZCDC) and Ministry of Mines last week.

Speaking to the publication, one unnamed source who is said to be privy to the shady deals said:

Actually, ZCDC was instructed to enter into this agreement with these mining companies.

The 12 mining companies have made easy the siphoning of billions of dollars in Chiadzwa diamond revenue into the pockets of some powerful individuals.

Zim Morning Post was further told that top serving and retired military officers, including some influential government and Zanu PF officials, are shareholders, directors and chief executive officers in the respective 12 diamond mining entities.

The twelve companies in question reportedly signed a non-disclosure agreement which means that they cannot be made public for scrutiny.

Ironically, ZCDC, a government-owned entity replaced previous diamond miners who were accused of looting and externalising diamond revenue.

The reports come when the nation is still demanding answers on how the country allegedly lost US$15 billion dollars during Mugabe’s era.
