Thousands Of Zimbabweans In South Africa Reportedly Ask To Be Repatriated

A considerable number of Zimbabweans in South Africa reportedly asked to be repatriated from South Africa as the COVID-19 pandemic effects bite, New Zimbabwe reports.

According to the publication, the Zimbabwe Embassy in South Africa has also made efforts to pass the word around to other Zimbabweans who might wish to be repatriated back home due to various circumstances.

The embassy reportedly said:

The Embassy wishes to advise members of the community that the government of South Africa allows for the voluntary, orderly repatriation of foreign nationals to their countries of origin during the lockdown period.

We also urge our members to practice the spirit of ubuntu by spreading this offer to other members who may want to go home on voluntary repatriation. We encourage members with access to the internet and Facebook to help others.

People that spoke to the publication about coming back home said they were caught in between a rock and a hard place as ends were not meeting in South Africa, and the economy is not performing well in Zimbabwe either.
