More Details Emerge On Zimbabwe's 4th Victim Of Coronavirus

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo on Wednesday announced that the country had recorded a fourth coronavirus death following the death of an 82-year-old Mhondoro woman at Westend Hospital.

It has emerged that the deceased was mother to Sylvester Nguni, a former Minister of State in the office of then-Vice President Joyce Mujuru.

The details were made public by exiled former Cabinet Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo who posted on Twitter saying:

This #Covidl 9 case from a rural community is sad with serious & far-reaching implications. The victim from Mhondoro was mother to Sylvester Nguni, former minister of state in former VP Joice Mujuru’s office & stepmother to former @ZACConline commissioner Goodson Nguni! #MHSRIP

The deceased was admitted at Westend Hospital in Harare where it was discovered that she was positive for coronavirus. She eventually died in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Minister of Health and Child Care Development told reporters on Wednesday that contact tracing of the case is in progress.

There have always been fears that the virus would spread to rural areas where health institutions are more backward and less-resourced compared to those in urban areas.
