Chin'ono Dismisses Mangwana's Claims That Hotels Rejected Returnees Housed At Belvedere College Over Coronavirus Fears
A prominent Zimbabwean journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono has dismissed as false reports by a government official that local hotels are refusing to accommodate returnees who are currently housed at Belvedere Teachers’ College.
Chino’ono speaks after Nick Mangwana the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services had claimed that cruise ship employer of fellow Zimbabweans housed at Belvedere had offered to meet hotel bills for them but local hotels were not willing to accommodate them citing the risk of a ”COVID-19 Hotel” label.
Chin’ono posted on Twitter claiming that he had spoken with a local hotel that actually agreed to them the returnees as long as the money was there. He said:
I am happy to let Mr@nickmangwana know that I have just come off the phone with a director of @CrestaHotels.
They have agreed to take in these returnees since as Nick said, their company is happy to pay. Please inform him since we don’t have diplomatic @twitter  relations.
Chin’ono had earlier promised to investigate the matter saying that hotel availability should not be a problem when the Government owns hotels including Rainbow and Ambassador hotels.
Returnees claim there is no running water at Belevedere College hence the need to be moved to a better place.
