Zim Community In SA Mobilise Aid For Compatriots Affected By Lockdown

The Zimbabwean community in South Africa (Zim-Com SA) is reportedly mobilising aid for fellow Zimbabweans who were affected by the national lockdown in that country.

This comes amid reports that some Zimbabweans in South Africa have reached out to the Zimbabwean Embassy in that country requesting to be repatriated to Zimbabwe as the lockdown is making it hard for them to stay in South Africa.

The Chronicle reports that Zim-Com SA’s spokesperson Mr Bongani Mkwananzi s announced the development in a statement on Sunday. Read the statement in part:

The generality of the Zimbabwean migrant group earns income from domestic work, the services industry like restaurants and garages, the construction industry as well as vending among other low paying and hand to mouth form of work.

The Zimbabwe Community in South Africa hereby extends a begging hand on behalf of many such families who cannot manage to earn an income during this very necessary lock-down period.
