The Amalgamated Rural Teachers of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has said that it is saddened by the death of Daily News Editor, Gift Phiri, who passed on this Sunday.

ARTUZ condolence message on the death of Gift Phiri*

19/04/2020

We mourn the death of a man who took his time to understand a story and the people behind a story. A great writer who had human centered approach to story writing. Mr Phiri would go to lengths to ascertain the security of the people behind an article after publishing the story. I used to receive his calls saying, ” President Masaraure are you safe after today’s article?”

It was difficult not to love this man who always cracked a joke on every subject. A man who would make you relax and share a story as a real person not an official.

ARTUZ is saddened at the gap Mr Phiri has left in Journalism. We are with his family and the Daily News at this difficult time.

Farewell Cde. A Great Journalist.

In Solidarity

ARTUZ President Obert Masaraure
