The Myanmar government is going to release a quarter of all inmates in all of its prisons as overcrowding in the prisons is now posing a COVID-19 risk, ZBC News reports.

This was revealed in a statement by the country’s president’s office which reads:

To mark Myanmar New Year, by respecting humanitarian ground and peace in mind of the people, the president pardons altogether 24,896 prisoners from various prisons.
