Parirenyatwa Hospital today began COVID-19 rapid testing starting with front line staff. The test procedure takes about 15 minutes.

The programme will be extended to all patients in due course in order to avoid cross-contamination.

This is in line with measures that have been taken in other countries to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

For instance, in the United Kingdom, critical care nurses and intensive care staff – as well as ambulance workers and GPs – were given tests, to see if it was safe for them to be at work.
