The Zimbabwean government has come under scrutiny for its nonchalant reaction to the coronavirus crisis, with critics worried that Zimbabweans will be blocked from entering other countries when they finally lift travel restrictions.
On Monday afternoon, an Ethiopian Airways plane landed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport with 32 Zimbabweans returning from the United Kingdom, one of the hotspots of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono confirmed that the plane landed in Harare at approximately 12:30 PM CAT and dropped its passengers before it proceeded to Zambia. Said Chin’ono:
[The] plane landed and dropped its passengers and it is now on its way to Zambia.
How the Zimbabwean Government handles this will be key to whether other countries will allow us into their borders when they Unlock.
Uganda and others are putting citizens in a mandatory 21-day quarantine.
Reports indicate that health officials are in a quandary on the way forward because there is no ready isolation centre where they can be quarantined for the mandatory 21 days.
Meanwhile, South Africa isolated students who were repatriated from Wuhan, China for a 21-day period even though all of them had tested negative for COVID-19.

The reason why the Zimbabwean government is acting like that is sadcc is accepting that behaviour of Zimbabwe punishing it’s citizens. If they put pressure on it it will be responsible for its actions. How can a responsible government build a small hospital for government officials only
Ehtiopian airlines or airways that does not mattee the fact is a plan landed with possibly infected zimbabweans and the government just accepts these people back with no measures for quaranteen put in place.zimbabwean government needs to wake up.
Its a shame our jounalists write to campaign for sanctions against the country on everything. What about the Zambian people where you confirm it was going. For the whole plane to take a journey, was it for 32 Zimbabweans only? Does it not suggest that starting with the host of the airline, Ethiopia, and other nations have their citizens moving? Why do you think the international community will have a case against Zimbabwe and not Ethiopia, Zambia and other nations? Are you even aware of activities by such nations you favour? BA is carrying passengers. If there are any nationals disregarding the lockdown, is it not the UK? Have you reported on how they have been chasing the sun and populating holiday sites? You must hate Zimbabwe so much that you dream of it being punished for air travel even when it does not have a plane in the air. Just as you wrote Ethiopian Airlines, you should have known that its about Ethiopia first. As you say they are travelling from the UK, it must confirm that the UK airports are working and they surely are not at work simply to aviate an Ethipian plane for 32 Zimbabweans. Shame, realy such a shame.
I would like to say that hands up to you at this action you took may more planes take place toZimbabwe. Zimbabwe has not have a feasible that could hinder its freights or other to enter but more precautions is to be hidered
They dont care about povho. Let’s just hope God will protect us from covid
Obviously my first comment was deleted. I asked why it must be thought that Zimbabwe must be punished for receiving its own citizens whose circumstances the writer was unable to verify. The International guidance is that each nation must only accept its returning citizens who it must put under quarantine for a specified time. I mentioned that for the reporter to wish that Zimbabwe must be punished is a measure of self hate by a Zimbabwean writer as the airline is Ethiopian, meaning that Ethiopia is moving and also that the plane will go via Zambia meaning there are Zambian citizens there. Why should the reporter think that only Zimbabwe deserves the suggested measures, a country without a plane in the sky? Further I pointed out that the plane departed from Heathrow, meaning that the British airports are opened and its unthinkable they could be open merely to aviate 32 Zimbabweans. Lets think positive for a while as Zimbabwe cannot be worse that the UK whose thousands of citizens flocked holiday spots in chase of the sun which just showed up. The US, UK and many other countries continue to receive their rerurning residents and special travellers. Were can nationals go if they are unallowed to return home from their visits? Lets think about it. Further, it is confirmed that all 32 are under quarantine in Zimbabwe.
