$5 Or $6 Million? Confusion Surrounds Delta Donation Towards COVID-19 Response

Social media is awash with a collated image which suggests that President Mnangagwa was handed either $6 million dollars by Delta Corporation or $5 million as a donation to fight coronavirus.

The circulating image creates confusion as it purports that the government received $6 million but claims it received $5 million. See the image below.

An analysis of the matter, however, shows that Delta Corporation donated a total of $5 million on the 7th of April to intensify the fight against coronavirus. See picture below.

This resonates with what Delta who posted on Twitter saying:

As a response to the H. E’s appeal to business leaders today Delta made a cash donation of ZW$5,000,000 to the Government of Zimbabwe’s COVID – 19 Disaster Fund. This will be augmented by a further ZW$1 million worth of medical accessories which will be channelled directly.

The general populace no longer trusts the incumbent government following reports that it misused lots of public funds and aid.

Some advise potential donors to send their donations directly to intended beneficiaries as opposed to giving the government the responsibility to administer and manage the distribution of resources.
