Malaria Outbreak Hits Beitbridge

4 people have died in Beitbridge in the last 5 days and several others are admitted at a local hospital due to Malaria, Newsday reports.

The outbreak was confirmed by Matabeleland South provincial medical director Rudo Chikodzore who said;

The district team is working to address the drivers of malaria in the affected area and will work out an action plan which seeks that.

The deaths have been blamed on late reporting to the hospital. A source at the Beitbridge Hospital close to the developments told the publication that:

Most will be dehydrated and it is those that delay who have complicated cases

A father who brought his son to the hospital also narrated how he had to act promptly as his son who had contracted the disease’s condition deteriorated after they delayed taking him to the hospital. Meanwhile, a suspected case of pneumonia outbreak has been reported in Matebeleland South even though the authorities are yet to confirm it.
