Gutu Warns MDC Alliance MPs Against Disobeying Khupe

Former MDC-T spokesperson and vice president of the faction led by Thokozani Khupe, Obert Gutu, said MDC Alliance MPs and councillors are obliged to accept the latter’s authority or be recalled by the party.

Gutu dismissed Chamisa’s good showing in the 2018 presidential election (he got more votes than Morgan Tsvangirai or any other opposition leaders since independence), saying he benefited from the people who sympathised with Tsvangirai.

Speaking in an interview with NewZim TV Monday, Gutu said Khupe is now the leader of both MDC-T and MDC Alliance and is waiting for the extraordinary congress to become the substantive leader. Said Gutu:

After the death of Morgan Tsvangirai, the MDC now will have a substantive leader after the extraordinary congress.

Any deployee to parliament or council who conducts themselves in such a way that they are disobeying party policy or refuse to recognise the leader, believe you me, the new leader, now the acting president who happens to be Thokozani Khupe can easily invoke section 129 (k) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and recall all renegade members of parliament who were elected under the MDC Alliance ticket. She can actually do it now.

Gutu said he will make Chamisa pay back millions of dollars that were “unlawfully” paid to his political formation by Treasury under the Political Parties Finance Act ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.

MDC Alliance MPs have sworn their allegiance to Chamisa after the Supreme Court ruled that Khupe was the legitimate leader of MDC-T.
