Retailers Call For Regulation Of Prices
Retailers have called for the regulation of prices of basic commodities during the 21-day national lockdown period to protect consumers from unscrupulous businesses.
Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers Association president Denford Mutashu said Zimbabwe can follow the South African and Rwandese models in regulating prices so that corporates do not look at making a profit. Said Mutashu:
On the issue of prices, we can ring-fence and regulate the prices of those key commodities: mealie-meal, bread, rice, sugar, cooking oil.
FeedbackYou could come through with that intervention because that is what other countries have done, for example, South Africa and Rwanda.
They have regulated the prices of those commodities because at this particular time no corporate should be looking at making a profit.
