"Testing As Few People As Possible For Coronavirus Is Not A Control Measure," Ali Naka Criticises Zim Govt

A prominent Pan African political commentator, Ali Naka has criticised the government of Zimbabwe over its alleged deliberate efforts to conceal information of the novel coronavirus.

Naka argues that the Zimbabwean government is not conducting enough tests therefore the published figures are not a true reflection of what is really on the ground. Naka posted on Twitter and said:

Testing as few people as possible for #CoronaVirus is not a control measure

7 people tested per day, 1 Tweet per day and you have 8 confirmed cases in Times of global pandemic! This is what mediocrity looks like Africans.

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health on Monday reported that the country had conducted 241 coronavirus tests and 233 of them came out negative, 8 tested positive while 1 of those who tested positive has since died.

Naka’s sentiments are shared by many who have also said that the government was hiding even deaths of some people who would have tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation has come to the defence of the government saying that coronavirus cases cannot be concealed due to the nature of the ailment.
