Mashonaland East Provincial COVID-19 Update 29.03.2020

The province recorded a total of 9 suspected cases. (Murehwa 2. Mutoko2. Ruwa 4, Seke 1). The Murehwa cases were confirmed negative on the 25th March 2020 and 3cases from Zimre Park Ruwa were tested positive whilst the other cases the results are still pending

Case numbers 1 is a 52-year-old male from Ruwa who came in from Dubai.

Case number 2 is a 40-year-old female Ruwa who is case number 1’s contact

Case number 3 is a 24-year-old female is also a contact of case number 1.

They are all in a stable condition and displaying mild symptoms.

Screening at all ports of entry Nyamapanda boarder Post and Robert Gabriel International airport is being done routinely.

The cumulative total for the cases under surveillance is at 122 with 16 having completed the 21 days surveillance period without the development of Covid- 19 symptoms and 15 have returned to their countries.

The province has 18 people who are contacts of the 3 positive cases.

Risk Communication: Information Education and Communication materials on COVID- 19 have been distributed to all districts in the province.

In Marondera urban risk communication messages to the community are being done using a hailer. Over 230 public servants at the provincial level have been sensitized COVID-19 key messages.

Partners have been mobilized for resources (IEC material, Roadshow van) for the delivery of risk communication messages to communities.

The security forces (ZRP) were sensitized on COVID-19 during the weekend.

Outbreak Coordination: National task force on Covid 19 visited the province and met with the following: Minister of State, Provincial JOC, PMD, DDCs, DM0s, EMA, Provincial Information Officer, CMED, Higher and Tertiary Education Director. The province and the district. are in the process of creating command centres.
