LIST Of Butcheries Found Selling Potentially Diseased Meat

Mutare City Council’s Health Department in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit, under “Operation Nyama Yabvepi” raided 29 butcheries and recovered nearly four tonnes of uninspected meat.

This comes in light of reports suggesting that some butcheries are selling beef from cattle attacked by the January disease, foot-and-mouth, anthrax, anaplasmosis, heartwater and theileriosis, had found their way on to the market.

Manica Post reports that offenders were ordered to pay a fine amounting to $500 each and 10 percent of the value of the meat recovered from them to cover the costs of burning it.

The publication reports that fines amounting to $4 900 have since been collected by the police. However, the fines paid may not be commensurate with the health hazards the butcheries will be exposing consumers to.

Below are some of the butcheries which were found selling uninspected meat.
