Biti Says Old St Anne’s Hospital Should Be Converted Into A Coronavirus Centre {Full Thread}

Zimbabwe is a fragile, vulnerable State without resistance or resilience. It can’t cope with #COVID19. It does not have a High Care Medical Facility. #Wilkins is a primary care isolation facility meant for #TB. To save lives Zim needs a three-week lockdown with strict enforcement.

Zim lockdown must have safety nets in the form of cash or food handouts to the vulnerable. It must be accompanied by a Fiscal Stimulus and numerous incentives and tax breaks. Business and CSOs must play their part. Second, a national High Care Facility needs to be set up urgently.

The old St Anne’s Hospital can easily be re-equipped with ventilators and other High Care equipment. Third Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be secured to protect all workers. Fourth Surveillance, Testing, Tracing and Treatment capacity must be enhanced i.e. the entire ecosystem.

Fifth, there must be openness and frank comms. Hiding data will get people killed. Sixth the State must put resources into the fight. That only ZWL$2 m has been disbursed nationally with Harare gettingZWL$100 000 is an indictment. The city of Harare and #Wilkins can’t cope with #COVID.

  1. I hope they treat the sick with corona virus without charging them!! This cant be looked at as “PROFIT” most of the countries in this world have free medical

  2. I hope they treat the sick with Corona without seeing this as a way to make money “PROFIT”…. the rest of the world do offer free medical care…

  3. Remember! Covid-19 pandemic has been politicised already despite the silence to that effect. The few urbanized Zanu PF elites can be accommodated at the proposed refurbished structures and the majority MDC sympathizers are left to their doom and the coherced majority rurals are expected to escape its wrath.
