Shipping And Freight Forwaders Urge Government To Suspend Duty On Sanitizers, Soap And Masks
Shipping and freight forwarders have implored the government to suspend duty on imported masks, soap and sanitizers as they are needed in bulk to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, The Herald reports.
This was revealed by Shipping and Freight Forwarders agents association of Zimbabwe (SFAAZ) president Mr Joseph Musariri who spoke to the publication and said:
In times like these, it might be prudent for the Government to scrap import related duties and levies on face masks, soaps and sanitizers, etc. these tools are very critical in the fight against the pandemic.
FeedbackMusariri was speaking after it emerged that those items have become a hot sale as they are said to be useful in fighting COVID-19 infections. Currently, gloves and sanitizers attract a 40% duty and 15% VAT.
