MDC president Nelson Chamisa’s spokesperson, Nkululeko Sibanda, has admitted that the party has “sell-outs” who are being paid by the ruling ZANU PF to destabilise the movement.
Military intelligence operatives are reportedly monitoring top opposition leaders’ movements as there are concerns that spontaneous protests could erupt at any time.
Sibanda said there is nothing secret about reports of infiltration within the organisation. He said:
The issue of infiltration is a public secret. Obviously, Zanu PF always has paid some people some money to destabilise the organisation. They have always done that and there is nothing new.
They want us to think about that, but we have issues to think about that and regardless of Zanu PF shenanigans, president Chamisa is moving forward with the ship.
However, ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu, dismissed reports that the ruling party was destabilising the opposition.
Last week the party’s secretary-general Chalton Hwende warned the party’s deputy secretary for international relations, Douglas Mwonzora against taking of party issues to social media, something that has been interpreted as a sign that there is turmoil in the party.
