"Parties That Fail To Meet The 50-50 Gender Parity Should Be Barred From 2023 Elections"
Women Coalition of Zimbabwe Gweru chapter has advocated for the disqualification of political parties that fail to meet the 50-50 gender parity in the selection of candidates in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking at the chapter’s meeting in Gweru recently, outgoing vice-chairperson Florence Guzha says women should advocate for a statutory instrument to make it mandatory to respect the 50-50 gender parity. She said:
As women, we should advocate for a law that makes it mandatory for political parties to meet the 50-50 gender parity in the selection of candidates.
FeedbackShould parties fail to meet such a requirement in the 2023 elections, they should not be allowed to participate in the plebiscite.
Statistics show that few women are participating in politics due to a number of issues including lack of funding.

Less participation by women in politics has slowed down the promotion of gender equality policies as women occupying decision-making positions are few compared to their male counterparts.
