'Banning Of Zimbabwe's Stadia Was Inevitable'

Renowned sports administrator, Tommy Sithole, said the decision by the Confederation of African Football to ban Zimbabwe’s stadiums from hosting international matches was inevitable.

Sithole told The Herald that the Government and Bulawayo City Council, who are the owners of the National Sports Stadium and Barbourfields Stadium respectively, do not have a proper understanding of what is required. He said:

It was inevitable, it was going to happen. If someone didn’t see it coming then they were not doing their job.

The problem in Zimbabwe, the biggest problem in Zimbabwe, is that all these stadiums are owned by entities who do not use them specifically for international football.

Sithole said there is no need for finger-pointing as the modernisation of stadiums is a national responsibility.

He added that the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry cannot do it alone and she needs support from all stakeholders.
