Residents of Victoria Falls and Bulawayo have overwhelmingly donated to Binga flood victims, The Standard reports. Binga was hit by floods after the region received incessant rains last week, immediately onsetting a humanitarian crisis in the district as flood victims are in need of food and clothes after some of their homes and property were destroyed by the floods.
Jafuta Foundation’s Christie Brookstein who is coordinating the donations said:
I am most touched by the person who gave one pair of shoes, everything they had to give and one of our old staff members who sent newspapers for cigarette rolling for the elders.
We don’t yet have a full list of helpers on the ground in Binga doing the distribution, but we would like to thank Tony Dubois for being the point person and Lodzi Hunters for the use of their 5 tonne 4×4 vehicle to reach remote locations, to the Binga district administrator and team who are coordinating.
On Wednesday last week, some 21 families were still marooned and 11 people were still perched on trees, airforce was failing to get to them because of the bad weather.
