Pressure Group Calls For Prosecutor-General To Be Investigated

The Prosecutor-General, Kumbirai Hodzi, has come under fire from a ZANU PF-linked civic society organisation #308 for admitting that cartels are difficult to break as they have “captured” the media and judiciary, among other sections of society.

Eden Mandava, a leader of the group, has since written a letter to the Justice Ministry, National Prosecuting Authority and the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) calling for an investigation into Hodzi’s conduct. The letter read in part:

Honourable sir, your admittance that truly cartels exist, that corruption is sinking the economy is a clear sign that in your capacity as the PG you have failed… we found it disturbing to hear that you alleged lack of co-ordination as a reason why corruption is growing yet the Constitution of Zimbabwe section 260(11) gives you the power to deal with these issues.

We kindly seek clarity on whether or not that was done before we take action as citizens of Zimbabwe against your words…

The NewsDay reports that its sources said the statements by Hodzi did not sit down well with some in the corridors of power who are now using #308 as a front to send a clear message that he could be sacked if continues to be “reckless” in his words.
