An illegal miner in Hwange died while illegally extracting coke from a tunnel that suddenly collapsed at Hwange Colliery’s waste dump site, The Chronicle reports.
Hwange Colliery’s spokesperson Mrs Rugare Dhobbie confirmed the death of Simelweyinkosi Dube and said:
The incident occurred on Wednesday when two non-Colliery employees were illegally extracting and scavenging coke from the Colliery waste dump.
While they were extracting coke, the tunnel collapsed and they were buried in sand.One was rescued by a passerby while the other was retrieved with the help of a front-end loader and had died on the spot.
Meanwhile, 20 illegal miners are feared dead as they were trapped in Kwekwe after the mine they were working in collapsed.
