Harare-based socialite and businessman, Genius ‘Ginimbi” Kadungure will spend another night in custody after a magistrate deferred ruling to his bail hearing to Thursday.
Ginimbi was arrested on Tuesday for undervaluing a Bentley he recently imported from South Africa.
He reportedly fabricated purchase receipts he presented to ZIMRA indicating that he bought the Bentley for $1.9 million.
Prosecutor George Manokore told the court:
In 2019, accused went to LSM distributors private limited trading as Bentley Joburg situated in Melrose Joburg and bought a Bentley for US$3 281 784.
When he arrived at the Beitbridge post Zim side, accused connived with his agent Alexander Gumbo and forged the value of the vehicle to read $1.9 million.
They then scanned the forged documents before uploading them on the ZIMRA system for duty processing on December 22 last year.
Ginimbi allegedly paid duty amounting to US$81 000 instead of $139 665, thus prejudicing ZIMRAof $58 665 in unpaid duty.
