Chegutu District Hospital Suspends Mortuary Services With Immediate Effect

Chegutu District Hospital has suspended Mortuary services with immediate effect as the mortuary is undergoing renovations, The Herald reports.

According to the publication, The mortuary has a capacity to carry 16 bodies but due to a fault, it was now taking 8 bodies only.

Furthermore, 6 bodies had been unclaimed for over 3 years meaning the mortuary could only take 2 bodies.

Chegutu DMO Dr Tonderai Nhende urged relatives to collect bodies as soon as they receive the news of their deaths. Said Dr Nhende:

The hospital’s mortuary is undergoing renovations. As a result, we are not taking any body to the mortuary. To that effect we would really appreciate it if we could collect the bodies of our loved ones as soon as we receive the news of their death since we do not have anywhere to keep the bodies. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

According to the publication, patients were now forced to share wards with dead bodies due to the dysfunctional mortuary.
