FIFA President Wants AFCON To Be Played Every Four Years
International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) president Gianni Infantino has called for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played every four years, instead of its current biennial schedule
Infantino made the remarks while speaking at an event in Morocco on developing football in Africa. He said that revenue and prestige would increase for a four-yearly continental championship.
He added that there is an impression that African football is regressing in regards to issues of refereeing, football infrastructure and competitions, something which calls for swift intervention from FIFA.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently shifted the 2021 AFCON from June-July to January-February., ostensibly due to fears over rainy weather in Cameroon, the hosts.
