Govt Urges Civil Servants To Be Patient

The government has pleaded for patience from civil servants as it works on expanding the economy as this will allow for the improvement of their remuneration.

Deputy Labour and Public Service minister Lovemore Matuke on Friday said improving public sector workers’ welfare will not be an overnight thing. He said:

It’s about the size of the cake; our economy is still growing so workers must remain patient.

Workers have the rights to demand what they want, but this is not an overnight thing, we are working tirelessly to improve the country’s economy and we are on the right track.

We want to make sure that prices are reduced and workers are getting a meaningful salary. This is a newly-born baby (government) so they must give us enough time to solve the challenges we are facing. Look at the size of the economy.

Earlier this week, the civil service Apex Council accepted a 140% government salary hike starting in January.

The Apex Council said the increase did not meet its demands and will continue pushing the government to pay an increase that is above inflation.
