An Unexpected Army Security Operation At ZANU PF HQ Leaves Party Officials Stunned

Officials of the ruling ZANU PF party are reportedly stunned by an unexpected security operation that was undertaken by the Zimbabwe National Army at the party’s headquarters this Tuesday.

New Zimbabwe claims that its reporters who had visited the offices bumped into the army and interviewed a party official who expressed shock over the incident.

The official who reportedly spoke on condition of anonymity said that the operation was unexpected since president Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputies had not visited the offices. The official said:

We are actually surprised, we have tried to come up with pointers as to what might have happened but there is nothing.

The president never visited the headquarters today, none of his deputies were here. So, we do not know what is happening.

The incident can be viewed as an attempt by President Mnangagwa to beef-up his security following numerous counts of alleged attempts on his life.

Mnangagwa reportedly survived a number of attempts at his life: in 2014, cyanide was laced in his office, a car crash; in 2017, he survived palladium poison in the food at the ZANU PF Gwanda rally in 2017; and a grenade explosion at White City Stadium in 2018.
