Ministry Of Defence Official On The Run After $300 000 Heist

A senior Ministry of Defence official is on the run after he allegedly stole $306 135 from the government in a cleaning service scam.

Danison Muvandi is alleged to have connived with other top Defence ministry officials, Laxwell Ngara, Peter Muchakadzi and Kunofiwa Madondo between March and June last year to defraud the Ministry of thousands of dollars using fake invoices.

Muchakadzi, Madondo and Ngara appeared before magistrate Hosea Mujaya following their arrest.

Prosecutor George Manokore told the court that the accused, and Muvandi who is still at large, allegedly manufactured receipts purporting, a cleaning company – Maids on Wheels – rendered cleaning services for $306 135.

They allegedly sourced five fake invoices with a total value of $306 135 and originated minutes dated June 19, 2019.
