Harare City Council Seeks To Demolish Illegal Mbare Structures

Harare City Council has approached the High Court seeking an eviction order that includes demolishing illegal structures built on its land in Mbare.

A group illegally occupied council land opposite Stodart Police Station in November last year and proceeded to build houses and a tombstone-making business on the land.

Council contends that by occupying stand No 41156, the occupants contravened the Urban Council’s Act and the Regional, Town and Country Act plus a host of other planning and building by-laws.

Chihambakwe, Mutizwa and Partners are acting on behalf of the council and suing Zamuse, Terrazo Tombstones, Chapo and Midzi.

Council wants the illegal settlers to be evicted, the structures to be demolished and the occupants to pay the cost of the suit.
