Senior Cops Lose Wares After 'Their' Vendors Are Pushed Away From Jumbo Mine

Some senior Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers were left seething after their junior colleagues raided and confiscated vendors’ wares at Jumbo Mine in Mazowe on Tuesday night.

Police officers sealed the mine in an operation targeting marauding machete-wielding gangs (MaShurugwi) and plundered vendors’ goods.

It has since emerged that the confiscated goods belonged to senior cops as the vendors were mere runners. Zim Morning Post quotes its police sources as saying:

An alarm was raised when the wares were not submitted to the police station.

This riled senior police officers, many who had bought the wares in question and had runners who were selling these commodities at the mine.

The place had become a mini-town of sorts; tuck shops everywhere, apartments for the s_x trade, barber-shops, you name it. Everything was looted clean and nothing was submitted.

Reports claim that some police officers were working in cahoots with the illegal miners, with the latter paying rent to the former to continue their operations.

Police arrested at least 907 illegal miners and impounded 18 vehicles in Mashonaland Central on Tuesday.
