"Enough Is Enough", Chamisa Vows To Proceed With HONA Despite Police Ban

MDC president Nelson Chamisa has vowed to go ahead with his Hope of the Nation Address (HONA) next week at Mai Misodzi Hall in Mbare.

The event was originally scheduled for January 15 but was blocked by police on the pretext that it coincided with the opening of schools for the first term.

Writing on his Twitter handle, Chamisa revealed that HONA will now be delivered on January 21. He wrote:

Enough is enough, we have exhausted all channels. We can’t continue to be victims of the unjust application of the law. Rights are for all. On Tuesday 21 January we will deliver the people’s Agenda 2020 to the nation come what may.

In a statement, Chamisa’s spokesperson, Nkululeko Sibanda said his principal and the MDC feel that it is improper and it sets a bad precedent and threatens democracy to allow the few to stop the party from exercising its constitutional rights.

In November last year, anti-riot police fired teargas and assaulted several MDC supporters who had gathered at the party’s headquarters in central Harare where Chamisa was scheduled to deliver the HONA.
