Govt Versus MDC View Of The State Of The Education Sector

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ndavaningi Mangwana said President Emmerson Mnangagwa has posted significant achievements in the education sector. Mangwana listed the achievements on Twitter as follows:

a) Implementing the New Curriculum going well.
b) Higher Education now 5.0 from 3.0
c) University Grants back!
d) 2000 New Schools
e) Student accommodation being built.

In response, MDC Secretary for Education Fadzayi Mahere revealed the dreadful state of Zimbabwe’s education. She wrote:

▪️87 schools record 0% pass rate in ZIMSEC Grade 7 results 2019
▪️20 400 pupils drop out of school in 2018
▪️High, anti-poor school fees
▪️Teachers earning less than US$40/month, strike
▪️A shortfall of 5907 ECD teachers
▪️New curriculum “cumbersome”
