MDC Condemns Mnangagwa For 'Eat Vegetables' Remarks

The opposition MDC has criticised President Emmerson Mnangagwa for saying that Zimbabweans should ditch meat and become vegetarians as this is good for their health.

Mnangagwa made the comments on Friday last week during the National Clean-up campaign in Kuwadzana after residents had petitioned him to deal with the escalating price of meat.

MDC Deputy Spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka chided Mnangagwa for trying to determine what Zimbabweans should eat. He said:

When you have a leader who starts to impose vegetables, a leader and a president who gets into other people’s kitchens determining family diets, it shows you just how much we have sunk as a country.

MDC Secretary for Education, Fadzayi Mahere, said that people must have the freedom to choose their dietary regime for themselves.

She added that people should eat vegetables as a matter of choice rather than being driven into vegetarianism by poverty.
