Govt To Release More Funds To Import Maize - Mutsvangwa

The Minister for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, on Sunday said the government will release more funds for the importation of maize to avert starvation.

With the country facing the reality of another poor rainy season and forecasts showing another poor harvest in April, more resources will be availed towards securing food supplies. Said Mutsvangwa:

As you can see, climate disaster shows no signs of letting up, and forecasts indicate another poor harvest in April, with below normal rainfall recorded, and Government will continue to import maize so that everyone will get food.

… the government will keep on increasing money for maize imports since the sky is not promising enough rains.

In its latest monthly report, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s (RBZ) said Treasury spent US$1,5 million on maize imports in August, but the figure increased to US$4 million in September.
