"Freedom Can Be Attained After 100 Years As ANC Did" MDC

Advocate Jacob Mafume, the Secretary for Elections for the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has sparked controversy on social after he suggested that it can take long to attain freedom.

His remarks were interpreted to mean that the opposition party was in no hurry to dislodge the ruling ZANU PF from power.

Mafume was responding to Thanda Khumalo who had posted on twitter saying that twenty years the MDC has spent, so far, trying to remove ZANU PF were too much.

In response, Mafume said:

This is a struggle for freedom. ANC fought apartheid for more than 100 years before it triumphed in 1994 even then it was a coalition Govt. This attempt of normalising the environment will produce a skewed analysis.

The MDC claims that, since its formation, it has been winning elections but the Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) in connivance with the ruling ZANU PF has been manipulating the results.

Some analysts have observed that voter turnout has been decreasing over the years as the electorate is increasingly becoming disinterested in political discourses which they say are not transforming the country.
