Guinea-Bissau Opposition Leader Umaro Cissoko Embalo Wins Presidential Election
Guinea Bissau, a Western African country, will start 2020 on a new slate as one of the few African countries to be ruled by an opposition party since the country’s electoral body declared the opposition party leader the winner of the just-ended elections on Sunday Aljazeera reports.
According to the publication, Umaro Cissoko Embalo wons the runoff by 53.55% against the ruling party Domingos Simoes Pereira’s 46.45%
After the results were announced, Domingos Simoes Pereira claimed the election was rigged and he told his supporters that he will contest the results at the Supreme Court.
