29 Intelligence Officers Sentenced To Death For Brutally Killing A Teacher In Custody
A Sudanese court has convicted and sentenced to death 29 intelligence officers for the torture and killing of a teacher in February this year.
The teacher, Ahmad al-Khair (36), died in custody at a detention centre in the eastern state of Kassala.
He had been arrested for taking part in protests against then President Omar al-Bashir’s government.
Ahmad Al-Khair’s case drew widespread attention in Sudan, and his killing fuelled the protests against the 75-year-old Bashir which eventually led to his ouster in April.
A huge crowd gathered outside the court in Omdurman, the twin city of the capital, Khartoum, to hear the verdict.
