MDC-A Candidate Attains Only 16 Votes In By-Election

Marry Choga who represented the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa attained only 16 votes in the by-election held this Saturday.

The Tongogara Rural Council Ward 6 by-election which held on the 15th of December was won by ZANU-PF’s Addmore Chitera with 396 votes compared to 16 votes received by the MDC Alliance’s Marry Choga.

The by-election was held in accordance with section 121A of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) following the death of the previous councillor, Edward Chitera, who was elected on a ZANU-PF ticket in the July 31, 2018, harmonised elections.

MDC has been struggling to penetrate the rural vote since its formation.
