Zimbabwe Govt's Accounting Methods Questioned As China And USA Complain Over Inaccurate Aid Figures
The accounting methods used by the government of Zimbabwe have been brought into disrepute after China and the United States of America have complained over the misrepresentation of aid figures by the Minister of Finance, Professor Mthuli Ncube.
Ncube announced recently in his 2020 Budget Statement that China and the USA, in that order, had donated, US$3.6 million and US$50 million, figures which dismissed as not representative of the truth by the two countries.
The USA said that contrary to the $50 million which Ncube claimed to be everything the USA donated, the Western country had actually contributed $334.4 million to the people of Zimbabwe while China said instead of the stated $3.6 million, the Asian country had contributed $3,631,500.
This comes amidst claims that the country is committed to adopting new accounting methods.
Auditor General, Ms Mildred Chiri has in her past reports been noting that the government is using outdated accounting methods which make it difficult to audit government accounts books.
