Parliament Cancels PAC Meetings Over Legitimacy Issues

The standoff between ZANU PF and MDC Alliance Members of Parliament has forced Parliament to cancel hearings by the portfolio committee on Public Accounts Committee (PAC) scheduled for this week.

The hearings have been cancelled pending the ruling by the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda on who should chair the committee.

MDC vice president and Harare East MP Tendai Biti currently chairs PAC but the ruling ZANU PF party’s MPs have been boycotting several PAC meetings.

They are insisting that they will not recognise the MDC chairpersons of the various Parliamentary portfolio committees until they recognise President Emmerson Mnangagwa as legitimate.

PAC was expected to summon Sakunda Holdings (a ZANU PF aligned company) to give oral evidence on payments made by Government for Command Agriculture and the Presidential Scheme programmes.
